We like the digital programming options and choices the Horizon 7.4 AT provides. We also like how the Quick Dial controls and Rapid Sync technology will help you keep pace with any streamed HIIT workout, no matter how intense. And of course, there’s the availability of Sprint 8.

Horizon’s choice-centered approach to integrative digital programming sets Horizon apart from the subscription-based digital programming on other popular fitness equipment brands that require you to use their own interactive fitness technology and pay an additional monthly subscription fee. We like having the freedom to choose.

We think NordicTrack Treadmills live up to the hype and are worth your investment. Here’s how we arrived at that conclusion.

Our Review Team has always been impressed with the focus and drive of NordicTrack’s company leadership. NordicTrack emphasizes innovation while also devoting considerable resources to construction and design.

Because of the sheer volume of sales they make each year, NordicTrack and their parent company, Icon Fitness, can offer some excellent value. It should be noted that many of the major components like motors, belts, and rollers are developed in house and are built specifically for their products.

When comparing treadmill specs across brands, you’ll find NordicTrack has some of the largest and most powerful motors for the price. In general, they provide higher output at cooler temperatures and are backed with a lifetime warranty. Their motors go through stringent testing. We’ve seen their test room where they torture the motors to verify their durability. In fact, NordicTrack dedicates an entire room at their corporate headquarters to subjecting their machines to mechanical abuse by dropping weights on the deck and running the motors at high speed for hours on end to test them.

NordicTrack has been around for over 40 years. However, like the American auto industry, NordicTrack has redefined itself in the last several years. In the process it has become a dominating force in the treadmill industry. That is due to the fact the company offers quality machines with some very innovative features at a valued price.

Walkers, joggers, and runners alike will enjoy the NordicTrack 1750. With a 3.75 CHP motor and a huge 22”x60″ deck area, this treadmill is built to handle serious use. It’s loaded with features like a 10″ smart HD touchscreen, and the ability to both incline and decline. What we like and don’t like about the Commercial 1750 

We love the audio capabilities of this machine. It has Bluetooth connectivity so you can use it with earbuds, and great speakers so you can blast the tunes and jam through your workout without the earbuds, if desired. There are two fans to keep you cool. There’s a large, roomy running surface. Basically, this machine does it all for an accessible price. There is so much to like about this model. No wonder it is wildly popular.

But we’re not doing our job if we don’t point out some things to be aware of. The machine itself is heavy, so the act of folding and rolling to move it can be challenging.

The machine is designed to be used with Wi-Fi, so if you live in or will be using the machine in, an area with weak or spotty Wi-Fi signals, you may have your workout interrupted by that. If that’s the case, and you want a machine where you can simply get on and go regardless of Wi-Fi availability, you may want to look at other brands, like Sole for instance, where the machine’s optimal performance is not Wi-Fi dependent. People who are shopping for treadmills in this price range are serious about their workouts and fitness goals and we wouldn’t want you to have to compromise consistency because of connectivity issues.

The NordicTrack EXP 10i is priced under $2000.

The EXP series of treadmills for NordicTrack are considered to be this brand’s line of budget-friendly machines. This line of treadmills was previously known as their “T-Series,” and recently was updated to be known as the EXP series. These treadmills are your standard entry-level machines. You still get many of the bells and whistles that are associated with NordicTrack treadmills, but at a more residential price point. The 3 treadmills you’ll find in this series are the EXP7i, EXP10i, and EXP14i. 

The EXP10i treadmill is normally priced around $300 more than the EXP 7i machine. It comes with a few upgraded features to justify the price jump.

Let’s take a look at its features and specs.

3.5 CHP DurX Commercial Plus Motor – This is a really powerful motor that will be able to handle miles of use, from light walking to avid running. This motor features their SMART-Response Drive System that enables self-cooling and reduced vibration of the motor.

20” x 60” Treadbelt – The standard treadbelt size that we see is 20″ x 55″. Although it may not seem like much, the extra 5″ makes a difference. The 60″ length will make this machine more comfortable for tall users and those with a longer running stride.

Incline AND Decline – A decline feature is something we do not see much on a treadmill at this price point. The EXP 10i allows you to go from -3% decline to 12% incline to mimic going up and down hills. This will take your HIIT workouts to a whole different level.

0-12 MPH – A top speed of 12 MPH is substantial. Most treadmills will max out at 10 MPH, so if you want to have the option to push yourself during your workouts – this is a really great feature. 

FlexSelect™ Cushioning – The cushioning on the EXP 10i is designed to mimic running on a real road surface and soften the impact on your joints.

10” Smart HD Touchscreen – A 10″ display screen will be sufficient for most people. It’s certainly not the largest that we see out there, but it is a good size for the price point of the EXP 10i. Although it’s not a giant screen, the 10″ SMART Touchscreen will enable you to take advantage of your 30-day iFit membership that’s included with your machine purchase.

What we like and don’t like about the NordicTrack EXP10i 

The EXP 10i treadmill is a quality treadmill, although the Commercial 1750 does provide a stronger motor, a steeper incline and a slightly larger deck surface. Your choice depends on your level of ability and your fitness goals. If you are not a seasoned runner, or are a walker/jogger committed to improving your at-home fitness plan, the EXP 10i is a logical option.

It’s worth pointing out that the EXP10i closely matches the specs of the Horizon 7.4 AT. While the EXP10i offers decline capability and a touchscreen, the biggest difference between the two comes down to iFit. The EXP10i is designed to work with iFit, so if the immersive interactive experience is what you crave, and your budget can maintain the monthly subscription, you’ll want to stick with a NordicTrack machine.

The NordicTrack EXP 14i, released in 2022, is available for less than $2000.

The EXP series of treadmills for NordicTrack are considered their line of budget-friendly machines. This line of treadmills was previously known as NordicTrack’s “T-Series”, and the name of the product line was updated to be known as the EXP series.

These treadmills are what NordicTrack considers to be entry-level machines. They come with most of the features available on other higher-end NordicTrack treadmills, but at a more residential price point. The 3 treadmills in this series are the EXP7i, EXP10i, and EXP14i. 

The 14i is the latest launch in the EXP treadmill series from NordicTrack, and made its debut in 2022. Unlike its slightly lower-priced sibling the EXP10i, the EXP 14i is in stock and available according to the manufacturer’s web site at the time of this writing.

The EXP 14i provides features and performance that avid runners will appreciate. This machine really checks all the boxes on your must-have list if you’re a runner. The NordicTrack 14EXPi:

What we like and don’t like about the NordicTrack EXP 14i

The NordicTrack EXP14i is an excellent treadmill whether your workouts include walking, jogging, running, or sprinting. It has everything offered by the ever popular but  now out of stock EXP10i and more.

The main advantages the EXP 14i offers include a 14” touchscreen, a focus on heart rate monitoring, and a slightly smaller footprint than the Commercial 1750.

We like the fact that this machine focuses on heart rate monitoring and heart rate training in an innovative way. The ActivePulse Heart Rate monitoring feature is a positive innovation. It vastly improves the accuracy of fitness equipment heart rate monitoring, and because it is AI driven, it brings heart rate training into the 21st Century. However, at the time of this writing, it does require an additional purchase.

We think the one big advantage the NordicTrack EXP 14i has over the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 is that the EXP 14i has a smaller footprint. So, it may be a better fit for an apartment or an upstairs space.

That being said, considering the slight price difference, the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 is probably a better deal since both require you to be committed to the iFit app. The iFit app offers largely visual programming, and while the EXP 14i offers a 14” touchscreen, the touchscreen on the 1750 tilts and pivots, which makes it more versatile.

We mentioned it before but it’s worth repeating that your purchase of any NordicTrack treadmill is a commitment to the iFit subscription-based digital programming. While iFit is outstanding, you must be prepared for the monthly subscription fee to become part of your budget. And remember that your live-stream workouts and other interactive features accessed through iFit require a strong Wi-Fi connection.

If all of these things meet your needs and none of the drawbacks are deal breakers, then the NordicTrack EXP14i could be the best treadmill for your body and budget.

Over the years, we’ve watched this company go from a relatively unknown brand to a major player in the fitness equipment industry, in part because Sole is willing to innovate and add features that keep pace with customer demand.

There are pros and cons with any brand. With that in mind, here are some important things worth knowing about Sole:

The central theme of complaints about Sole treadmill machines our Review Team has heard over the years is the lack of technology integrations.

However, in the last year, Sole has begun to improve on this by partnering with Studio and offering a free 30-day trial of the interactive technology on all Sole treadmills. And the company continues to respond to customer demands in this area. For example, this model year, Sole added touchscreens and 3rd-party app integration capability.

But it’s still true that if you’re looking for a machine that focuses on full-service interactive features and comes with a wider variety of technological advancements, brands like NordicTrack or ProForm are a better fit for you.

Sole treadmills are built for the user who simply wants to get on and go.

The most noteworthy drawbacks our Review Team has heard repeatedly regarding Sole treadmills are outlined below.  

• Speaker quality. In comparison to other top brands, the speakers offered on Sole treadmills are nothing to write home about.
• Screen size. There are many other treadmill brands that feature huge screens on their treadmill models, the largest one on a Sole model is a 10.1” screen.
• Lacking fans. Although Sole treadmills come with cooling fans, they are not the best fans available on the market.
• Heavy equipment. Because Sole treadmills are designed to be durable, they are very heavy.

Let’s talk about the heavy weight of the Sole machines for a moment. Some consumers find a heavy machine to be a drawback, in contrast to other brands who advertise “lightweight” designs. Others find a heavyweight treadmill to be a benefit because the machine will be stable while in use, especially by heavier users.

Controls are present for speed, incline, time, distance, calories burned, pulse and pace displayed simultaneously. There is no need to scroll for information.

Speed & Incline Control – There are speed and incline controls on the arm rests. Having the controls on the arm rests makes for simple adjustments in contrast to awkwardly having to reach over to the console while your workout is in progress. This is especially true if you are running. There are 15 levels of incline options.

Cushion Flex Running Deck – This deck does a great job of shock absorption and reducing the possibility of injuries and strains. The deck material is both reversible and wax lubricated, meaning it will be a long time before you need to replace the tread belt, even under heavy use. Your machine is built to last. And, in case you need another benefit in the deck department, did we mention this deck is advertised as being quieter than other decks?

Folding the Sole F80 is easy and safe. The reversible deck is a nice touch in today’s world where so many products and parts are disposable. The whole machine is solid, and it’s nice to interact with a device that’s built to last.

The Sole F80 is available at a welcome middle ground price between the Sole F65 in under $1500 price category, and the higher-end Sole F85, described below.

The Sole F80 is ideal if you are seeking a higher weight capacity treadmill, since this treadmill can support a user weight of 375lbs.

The Sole F80 is a robust machine with a top speed of 12 mph, an incline range of 0%-12%, and easy folding with 4 wheels at the front end of the treadmill for easy movement.

The Sole F80 does have a simple console which is ideal for those who are not particularly tech savvy or who simply wish to get on and go. There are limited workout options, and some users have said the fans are not effective. Beyond that, there’

The Sole F85 is an excellent treadmill in the $1,500-$1,999 pricing category. It has a powerful motor, a super-wide 22” tread belt, and an impressive warranty. Sole Fitness is known for their solid machines and great customer service. Best of all, they back up their equipment with an industry-leading two-year service warranty!

This treadmill is a commercial value machine offered at a residential price point. And we think the Sole F85 treadmill is the absolute best folding treadmill for runners. We’re not the only ones.

This year the F85 from Sole was awarded “Best Buy Under $2,000” and “Top In Its Class”. It has some pretty impressive features – including one of the most powerful motors that is available on a residential treadmill.

4.0 Continuous Duty HP Motor – A 4.0 HP motor is like having an 8-cylinder hemi under the hood. It will run effortlessly at high speeds. This size motor is about as powerful as it gets for home use. The speed range is .5 – 12 MPH. There are 15 incline levels.

22″ x 60″ Treadbelt – The length is ideal for both jogger and runners, and for individuals with long strides. You won’t feel like you are about to fall off the end. This extra wide 22″ tread belt is usually found only on commercial grade models.

Speed and Incline Controls on Handlebars – As runners, this is a feature we particularly like. You can change up the speed and incline without having to lean over the console, which often causes breaks in your stride.

Extra Large 2.75″ Crowned Rollers – The larger roller surface means less revolutions, which translates into less wear and tear on the treadbelt, rollers, bearings, and the motor. The larger rollers will also reduce the noise level. Being ‘crowned,’ the roller is slightly bigger in the center. What we like and don’t like about the Sole F85

We agree with other reviewers in the fitness equipment world that the Sole F85 is the highest quality folding treadmill out there.

What are the differences between the F80 and F85? The F85 has a bigger screen and a bigger motor. The bigger screen may not make a difference because you are bringing your own device to the workout if you are using apps. And the bigger motor may not make a difference either if you’re not engaging in intense workouts or are not a heavy bodyweight user. If that’s the case, you might consider saving a few dollars and go with the F80.

There are so many good things to say about the Sole F85 and not many drawbacks. We’ve already mentioned that all Sole treadmills are a little light on the technology side, so if live-streamed classes and other interactive features are what attracts you, we encourage you to look at a different brand. However, Sole has recently stepped up its tech game and the mirroring feature is brilliant (see above). The fact that the latest models of Sole treadmills now support third party apps like Netflix is also a positive step in the tech direction for Sole.

The F85’s weight capacity of up to 400 lbs is definitely worth a second look. If you are a heavier user and don’t need all the fancy interactive features, this could be your treadmill. And it would be an excellent choice. Please remember though, that machines with high weight capacities are often heavy themselves. The F85 weighs a full 308 lbs, which can make it a challenge to put in an upstairs or downstairs space.

It’s important to keep in mind that the F85 has a big footprint— it is a full 80 inches long when in use.

The Sole F85 folds up, which is a welcome yet unusual feature for such a durable treadmill with a high weight capacity.  Moving the folded (heavy!) treadmill is made easier by the fact that there are 4 wheels instead of the 2 typically found on folding treadmills made by other manufacturers.

The F85 brings a lot of great features together in one machine, and it could be the right treadmill for you.

The Sole S77 treadmill is basically the non-folding version of the popular F85 treadmill from Sole. If you do not want a folding treadmill and you really like the features of the F85 machine, look no further than the S77.

We like the S77 for all the same reasons we like the F85. These two models are basically the same treadmill except the F85 folds up and the S77 does not. Note that the new mirroring feature that allows you to view your favorite shows on your treadmill’s screen is for the F85 only at the time of this writing.
