Learn How You Can Exercise Just One Hour per Week

One of the top reasons that people don’t exercise is a lack of time.  It’s not surprising with our modern society.  People are busy with work, kids, long commutes, and endless chores.  That is why we’re especially excited to introduce a program called Sprint 8 from Matrix Fitness.

runner-1561817-640x480Matrix Fitness is the fasted growing commercial brand on the globe.  You’ve likely seen their machines in health clubs and spas.  The company recently released a whole new line of machines designed specifically for use in a private home.  Best of all, these machines include the Sprint 8 program.

This High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout was developed by Dr. Phil Campbell and is scientifically proven to produce real results.  The Sprint 8 program will allow you to exercise just one cumulative hour per week.

Sound too good to be true?  Let’s take a look at the science backing the program.

Go Hard and Fast  – Not Long and Slow

Did you know that long slow, runs on your treadmill are ineffective in helping you tone your muscles and lose weight?  Instead, you should be doing high intensity, anaerobic workouts to activate your fast twitch muscle fibers.  These fast paced runs help ramp up your metabolism and stimulate the production of natural human growth hormone (HGH.)

s8-matrixThis is likely one of the biggest mistakes people make when they perform cardio workouts.  Many runners insist that an hour of moderate exercise is going to make a difference when they would be much better off upping the intensity and shortening the exercise session.

Wanna know more?  Here goes…

The Benefits of Human Growth Hormone

The reason that short and intense workouts are more effective for your body is because they help produce more HGH.  This hormone is the key to producing lean muscle mass.  Dr. Phil Campbell developed the Sprint 8 to maximize your body’s production of HGH after studying the topic with the American College of Sports Medicine and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

In his book, Ready, Set, Go!, he explains how a natural release of exercise-induced HGH can provide the same benefits as expensive injected HGH. (The injections cost $1,000/month!)  This benefits include on average:

  • 4% drop in body fat
  • 8 % gain in lean muscle mass
  • 1% thicker skin to fill out wrinkles and provide a youthful appearance.

Other scientists agree with Dr. Campbell’s findings.  A group of doctors in Brookhaven, Mississippi found that there was a 31% drop in body fat in eight weeks.  This was with no dieting among Sprint 8 testers who worked out for only 20 minutes each day, 3 days a week over an 8 week period.

A 2002 study in the UK’s Journal of Sports Sciences shows that HGH is increased 530% over non-exerciser’s base levels after 30 seconds of high intensity cycling.

What Exactly is a Sprint 8 Workout?

Let’s get to the nitty gritty.  How does one perform a Sprint 8 workout?

“Sprint 8 can be performed in many different ways,” explained Campbell, “one of the best ways to learn Sprint 8 is on your favorite piece of cardio equipment.” The developers of the Matrix and Vision Fitness treadmills teamed up with Dr. Campbell to create a version of the system pre-programmed into your cardio machine.

You will start your workout by warming up for 2-3 minutes.  Once you are ready, you will begin your first high intensity session.  Sprint on the treadmill for 30 seconds until you are completely out of breath.

sprint8_combo2Push yourself!  If you’re going to do such a short workout, you need to make it count.

The actual speed of this sprint will vary with individual abilities.  Some may find that 5 mph is plenty while others can notch the speed up to 10 mph or faster.  You can also use the incline feature on your machine or outdoor hills to increase the difficulty.  After this first interval, you should be completely exhausted and unable to go another step.

Next, take a 90-second period of “active recovery” where you jog slowly or walk on your machine to recover your breath.  Then, start your second sprint for another 30 seconds.  Once you’ve completed eight sprints, you can cool down and then stretch out.

The entire session will only take 20 minutes and can be completed 3 times each week.

Matrix Treadmills Have Sprint 8 Built In

So what’s the benefit of doing this work-out on a Matrix treadmill?  Well, that’s easy.

If you wanted to complete this exercise outdoors, you’d need a stopwatch and the space to run.  It would also be helpful to have a coach holding the watch and telling you when to run or walk so you can truly give the exercise your best effort.  If you were attempting to do this session on another treadmill, you’d waste time and effort adjusting the speed and incline instead of going “all out.”

The Matrix treadmill has the entire workout programmed into your machine so you can simply follow the instructions on your screen.  It will tell you when to sprint, when to relax, and it will keep track of your intervals.  Plus, audio coaching will help encourage you towards the end of the workout.

One of the representatives from Matrix Fitness told us that you will literally be gasping and holding on for dear life when you are completing these sprints.  There is nothing worse than pushing yourself that hard and then struggling with speed and incline controls on your treadmill.

(By the way…He followed that up by raving about how wonderful the program is and how much weight he lost!)

It’s all laid out for you!  Plus, using the other fitness tracking features on your Matrix Treadmill, like ViaFit, you will be able to keep better track of your progress.  Studies have shown that people who track their workouts make better progress towards their goals.  Sprint 8 is a fantastic tool to help users make a real difference in their bodies with minimal time commitment.
