Two of the most popular mid-range treadmills are the Sole F80 and the NordicTrack Commercial 1750.  These treadmills are designed to handle the abuse of runners, and in addition, offer features that will enhance your running experience and motivate you to achieve your fitness goals. Both typically cost around $1,500, and if you buy them online will include free shipping.

So which is the better value and choice?

What the Sole F80 and the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 have in Common

Both treadmills come with very powerful motors that can handle runners and heavy users with little effort.  Both have an extra long and extra wide 60” x 22” running surface.  They have the same lifetime motor, 5-year parts and 2-year labor warranty. Their maximum speed and incline are similar. They each come with popular installed programs like hill & speed training and heart rate control (includes a chest strap heart rate monitor). Both machines have a sound system and fans. Finally, both are folding treadmills.

The Sole F80 Treadmill Difference

The Sole F80 uses a BlueTooth technology that allows you to track and store your stats on to a free Sole app or one of these popular fitness apps (Fitbit, Record, MapMyRun, Apple Health). Studies show that those individuals that track their progress and stats are more likely to achieve their fitness goals.

Sole has a slightly stiffer running surface, and this tends to be because Sole treadmills like the F80 appeal more to the serious runner.  And runners typically prefer a more solid surface.  When it comes to durability, Sole treadmills have the reputation of being the most durable machines in their price range.

What has made NordicTrack the dominant treadmill player is their innovative technology.  First, on the Commercial 1750 you get a 7” full color, touch screen display.  It gives you vivid visuals feedback, in addition to allowing you to access the Internet as you workout.  However, it is their iFit technology that makes their treadmills so popular.  Like the Sole app, iFit allows you to store your stats as you are training and monitor your progress. What makes iFit unique is their motivational programs geared towards attaining your goals.  For example, you can create custom progressive workouts based on your fitness goals.  Those goals can include weight loss or training for races.   These programs run over several weeks and get progressively more intense.

In addition, iFit offers a library of famous virtual landscapes that you can simulate running and viewing on the full color display.  The treadmill deck simulates the sense of running up or downhill.  You can run through National Parks and foreign lands.  However, there is an additional yearly cost for iFit, but included in the price is a iFit wearable tracker that allows you to track non-treadmill activity.

Sole F80 vs. NordicTrack Commercial 1750 – The Winner?

If Durability is your #1 consideration, I give the edge to the Sole F80 treadmill.  This is particularly true if you are a hardcore runner that will beat your machine.  Not to say the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 is not durable, but Sole machines have built their reputation on having the most durable machines in the industry.

If you are looking for a treadmill that will motivate and entertain, then the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 is the winner, hands down.  There is nothing like iFit Technology in the industry.  However, you’ll have to decide if you want to pay the extra price and will you actually use it.

Both the Sole F80 and the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 are good choices, you just need to decide your priorities and choose from there.
