Horizon Elite T9 Treadmill Review

The Horizon Elite T9 treadmill includes several new interactive features designed to motivate you towards your fitness goals. The world is becoming interconnected through technology, more about so why shouldn’t your treadmill also be wired to the Internet?  That is exactly what Horizon did with the Elite T9.

In addition to a beautifully easy-to-use touch screen display, stuff the Horizon Elite T9 is built to a runner’s specifications.  It incorporates features that can handle the abuse that comes with constantly running on a treadmill.  You’ll find that many budget brands suggest their treadmills are running compatible, sales but they typically lack the components that can withstand the constant impact of runners.

Horizon Elite T9 Treadmill Features

2.75 CHP Johnson Drive System Motor – You will generally see treadmills in this price range with larger motors.  However, manufacturers are buying motors from third party sources, and often they fudge on the actual output.  The motors in Horizon treadmills are specifically built for Horizon machines by their parent company, Johnson Fitness.  The motors tend to have larger magnets allowing them to run efficiently at lower RPMs.  This results in the motor running cooler and quieter with a longer lifespan of operation.   The overall drive system is calibrated to track your movements and adjust the speed accordingly, which reduces stress to your joints.

Variable Response Cushioning – Although the name sounds fancy, it is basically the same kind of shock absorption you find on most treadmills.  The Horizon Elite T9 uses rubber grommets known as elastomers.  The deck is designed to absorb the shock as your foot lands at the front of the deck.  The rear of the deck is stiffer, providing a solid lift-off.

20” x 60” Running Surface – The 60” lengthy is standard at this price, although you will find some comparably priced models with a 22” wide surface.

Maintenance –Free Infinity Belt – The underside of the belt on the Elite T9 is impregnated with synthetic hard wax, which eliminates the need to lubricate…ever.  Regular maintenance and lubrication of a treadbelt can be a pain. This belt was tested up to 21,000 miles before the designers were satisfied it would last indefinitely.

Horizon Elite T9 Console

10” Full Color Touch Screen Display – The full color is definitely an improvement over LCD displays and is extremely intuitive to use. The display provides feedback for time, distance, incline, speed, pace, calories burned, and heart rate. The addition of the Workout Tracking Calendar allows you to see a record of your past performances. Finally, this display will show videos from Virtual Active (See below).

232 lbs. Product Weight – The combination of the heavy weight and the extra sturdy frame guarantees that the Horizon Elite T9 will provide a solid feel even under the most intense workouts.

15% Incline and 12 mph Speed Settings – This should be plenty of incline and speed to give you a solid workout.

Heart Rate Monitoring – This machine comes with a Polar Wireless Receiver to monitor your heart rate. This is a nice $50 value that provides more accurate heart rate monitoring than the standard hand grips.

Warranty – The coverage is standard for a $2K treadmill: Lifetime motor and frame, 5 years parts, and 2 years labor

Additional features include speakers, fan, bottle holder and reading rack.

Programming and Technology Features

44 Installed Programs – You get a generous 44 installed programs that include: Manual, 9 Calorie, 13 Distance, 4 Interval, 3 Performance, 10 Step, 2 Virtual Active, and 2 Custom. Changing your workout helps to overcome fitness equipment monotony.  It also can increase your performance and calorie burn.

Viafit

ViaFit – This interactive feature distinguishes Horizon treadmills from the competition.  The Horizon Elite T9 treadmill is equipped with Wi-Fi, and is able to communicate your stats to your  ViaFit account.  In addition, with your personal ViaFit account you can define fitness goals like number of workouts, calories burned, amount of time exercising, or total distance.

ViaFit also allows you to import fitness and nutritional stats from other popular apps, giving you a central resource to track data from numerous sources. Studies have shown that those individuals that track their progress are more likely to achieve their fitness goals. In fact, tracking software, particularly on smartphones, is becoming more and more popular as people look for ways to motivate themselves.

It is the ability to converge all your fitness, health and nutritional data into one source that makes ViaFit appealing. Horizon is the only company that offers this unique feature. Best of all, this system is free and does not require a monthly subscription of any kind like similar programs from some of the competitors.

Virtual Active – Obviously, exercising in place can be very boring.  That is why so many people watch TV as they workout.  Horizon offers another alternative, the ability to virtually run some of the most famous landscapes in the world.  Virtual Active was created after runners with head cameras ran through numerous famous locations. You can call up one of these videos and simulate running the very same terrain.  Your speed will trigger the speed of the video and the treadmill’s incline will sync with the hills on your screen.  There are several other companies offering a similar technology and they are proving to be popular with users.

Our Review – Horizon Elite T9 Treadmill

For those that want a heavy duty running machine, the Horizon Elite T9 has the components and the engineering to handle the abuse.  The Elite T9 integrated system will offer you a rewarding workout that is also forgiving to your joints.  If you need motivation and distraction, the ViaFit and Virtual Active features along with the easy-to-us touch screen display complete the package.

Horizon is known for offering quality machines at a valued price.  With these added technological features, the Horizon Elite T9 treadmill is one of the most appealing treadmills at the $2,000 price range.

However, Johnson has some pricing challenges to overcome as currently there are better values such as the NordicTrack 1750 which is similarly equipped and sells for hundreds less. Keep in mind the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 does not offer the infinity belt.

Horizon Elite T9 Treadmill Features…

Programming and Technology Features…

44 Installed Programs – You get a generous 44 installed programs that include: Manual, 9 Calorie, 13 Distance, 4 Interval, 3 Performance, 10 Step, 2 Virtual Active, and 2 Custom. Changing your workout helps to overcome fitness equipment monotony.  It also can increase your performance and calorie burn.

Viafit

ViaFit – This interactive feature distinguishes Horizon treadmills from the competition.  The Horizon Elite T9 treadmill is equipped with Wi-Fi, and is able to upload your stats to your online ViaFit account.

Horizon Elite T7 Treadmill Review

Developed in 2014, and the Horizon Elite T7 Treadmill has a solid record of customer satisfaction.  It offers some significant upgrades from its predecessor.  In particular, help Horizon has joined other manufacturers in making the Elite T7 interactive with the Internet.  This new technology trend allows your treadmill to communicate with WiFi, track your progress, and provide various options that can motivate you to achieve your fitness goals.

The Horizon Elite T7 treadmill is also appealing because you are getting a heavy duty machine for a reasonable price.  The Elite T7 is designed to accommodate walkers, joggers and runners.   Our team visited the North American headquarters of Johnson Fitness, the parent company, and were impressed with their focus on innovation, quality control and attention to their customers.

Horizon Elite T7 Treadmill Features and Technology…

Horizon Fitness Eite T7 Console60” x 20” Running Area – The length and width is ideal for all types of users.  The deck is long enough to handle the stride lengths of a runner, particularly if you are doing interval training

2.75 CHP Johnson Drive System Motor – You may notice that motors on comparably priced treadmills are slightly larger.  However, the motor for the Horizon Elite T7 treadmill was built specifically by Johnson Fitness for this machine, and not purchased by a third party.   Johnson Fitness builds high-quality motors that utilize a larger magnet and run at lower RPMs, which results in the motor being cooler and making less noise.

ViaFit – As mentioned, the Horizon Elite T7 treadmill is Wi-Fi ready, and is able to upload your stats to your personalized online ViaFit account. This allows you to track your progress towards goals, share results through social media, and integrate with other fitness and nutrition apps on your smart device. In addition, with the ViaFit account, you can define fitness goals like calories burned, total exercise time, total distance, and number of workouts.  In the process, you can track your overall progress towards your goals, which is a proven method in achieving success.

ViaFit can import fitness and nutritional stats from other popular apps, giving you a central resource to track data from numerous apps. The X-Capture technology allows you to take a photo and import any statistics on an unfamiliar machine or smart watch device so that all of your data is stored in one place. This entire ViaFit app and account is provided for FREE, a great value compared to similar platforms from the competition.

 Other features include…

  • Passport – Passport lets you simulate running outdoors through interactive videos.  There are a number of courses through famous parks and cityscapes.  As you walk or run through a hilly terrain, the treadmill’s speed and incline syncs with the progress of the video.  You need to buy the box and cables in order to display the videos on your TV.
  • 227 Lbs Unit Weight – This weight is comparable to some commercial treadmills.  The result is the machine will be rock solid with even the more aggressive users.
  • 42 Pre-Installed Programs – You get a wide variety of installed programs that are focused on different fitness goals and exercise strategies.  They include Manual, 9 Calorie, 12 Distance, 4 Interval, 3 Performance, 10 Step, and 2 Custom.  The numerous choices are for those that like variety in their exercise routine.
  • Display – The display on this machine is an 8.5” Extra-Wide Blue LCD.
  • Incline and Speed – The incline on this machine goes up to 15% for a great muscle-burning workout. The speed ranges from 0-12 mph.
  • Variable Response Cushioning – Horizon Fitness gives their shock absorption a fancy name for their Elite T7 treadmill, however, it is rather standard in the industry.  The deck is designed to absorb more impact towards the front of the deck where your foot lands.  It is more solid towards the back where you push off.  This deck surface is a vast improvement in shock absorption compared to running outdoors.
  • Folding Mechanism – The Elite T7 has hydraulics under the deck that make the lifting or dropping of the deck effortless. We like that the machine descends slowly when released to avoid any safety issues.
  • Maintenance Free Belt – The Infinity Belt is impregnated with synthetic hard wax making it maintenance free. Occasional lubricating is not required. The folks at Johnson Fitness shared that they tested this belt up to 21,000 miles with no issues. Eventually, they just stopped testing it for time’s sake.
  • Heart Rate Monitoring – The Horizon Elite T7 comes with a Polar Wireless Receiver that can be strapped around your chest for continual heart rate monitoring. This is a nice $50 value that comes along with the machine. If you prefer, there are also standard hand grips to use.
  • Fan, Speakers, MP3 Input, Bottle Holder and Reading Rack – All fairly standard features on treadmills these days.
  • Warranty – The lifetime motor and 5-year parts is standard for this price range.  The 1-year labor is sub-par, although Horizon treadmills have a reputation for being low maintenance.

Our Review – Horizon Elite T7 Treadmill

The Horizon Fitness Elite T7 treadmill does an excellent job of combining quality components and engineering with innovative motivational technology.   The Elite T7 will provide a rewarding workout that will be easy on your joints.

There are three reasons why the Horizon Elite T7 is one of the best values in its price range.

  1. Johnson Fitness is known for building low maintenance treadmills.
  2. Their customer service is second to none.
  3. Features like ViaFit and Passport will help you achieve your fitness goals and take the boredom out of running in place.

Overall, the Horizon Elite T7 is a sweet deal!

Beyond the Hype TreadClimbers Really Produce Results!

Bowflex Treadclimber ReviewsThe Bowflex TreadClimber offers a new concept in cardio exercising.  If you’ve seen the informercial, adiposity and you would have to live in a cave not to, the TreadClimber promises you will “Get the Body Your Want in Half the Time.”  For that to work for me I would have to grow several inches and be about 20 years younger.  I don’t think the TreadClimber can do that, but there may be some validity to their claims, which are:

  • The TreadClimber increases your heart rate quickly — and keeps it there!
  • Allows you to burn more calories and lose weight more effectively!
  • Works more core muscle groups at the same time!
  • Minimizes joint impact — Very important!
  • and it does all of this without running or jogging!

How the Bowflex TreadClimber Works

bowflex treadleThe innovative design is based on a “dual motion treadle system”. These treadles move up and down with the motion of your footsteps.  It is like having a cross between a treadmill, stair stepper and an elliptical trainer.  And because you are walking and not running the TreadClimber is shorter in length, thus taking up less floor space than a treadmill. As much as a foot or two.

More Efficient Workout

Yes, the TreadClimber does give you a more efficient workout in comparison to walking or running on a treadmill.  The design does allow you to work your large core muscle groups more efficiently. An independent consumer magazine stated at 2 mph and 3.5 mph you burned twice as many calories as on a flat treadmill at the same speed.  Although, if you crank up the incline on a treadmill you will also burn more calories at a lesser speed, but probably not as efficiently as the TreadClimber.

However, the advertisements suggest you can get the body you want.  What they don’t mention is that the Bowflex TreadClimber primarily works your lower body, and to tone up your upper body you still need to do some type of upper body strength training, which is also true with a treadmill.

Low-Impact Workout

bowflex treadclimber consoleWhen you run on a treadmill you can impact up to 2.5 times your body weight – imagine the shock to your joints when you run on concrete or asphalt.  Since the treadles on a TreadClimber move up and down in a motion that mimics climbing, you have less impact than on a treadmill.  In addition, the TreadClimber is designed for walking, which is less stressful than jogging or running.  In general, there is less stress to your joints in comparison to a treadmill, but it is not as low-impact as an elliptical trainer.

In the past there were a number of mechanical issues, primarily because of the complexity of the design. I use to get a number of complaints. The company appears to have resolved those issues, and I can honestly say I have not received a complaint in over 2 years.

Our Review – Bowflex TreadClimber

The issue here is whether you are better off buying a Bowflex TreadClimber or a treadmill.  For $1,500 you can buy a very durable treadmill like the Sole F80, which comes with a lifetime motor, 5-year parts and 2- year labor warranty.  When you start talking about spending around $3,000 for the TC20 you can purchase a commercial grade treadmill for the home.

However, tests prove the TreadClimber does offer a more efficient workout with less impact in comparison to a treadmill, and that may justify the cost. There are countless satisfied customer who have bought the TreadClimber. These machines get results, otherwise tens of thousands would not have bought them.

Just don’t get carried away with the hype, and look at the alternatives that are available both with treadmills and elliptical trainers.  After some due diligence you may conclude that the Bowflex TreadClimber is the best answer for achieving your fitness goals.

Customer BowFlex TreadClimber Reviews

This is a fine machine, one that will give you a great cardo workout for the time spent. I use it in the winter when I can not use the bicycle for my cardio. Very well build, its not loud, it FUN! IF you are really into your workouts, I suggest you buy it! I use the Bowflex Ultimate 2 for the strength part and the TreadClimber for cardio. VERY well built. If you have a doubt about yourself that you may not continue a exercise program you may want to start cheaper BUT starting a workout program both strength and cardio with cheap stuff will make it much harder to stay motivated also. PS…… Bowflex’s customer service department is second to none for service!

I am definitely not a fitness trainer but I would have to say that the Bowflex TreadClimber TC5000 (Now the TC20) provides the BEST workout possible for home use. I will agree that it is a bit expensive, but I haven’t experienced a complete cardio and full-body workout like I experience on the tread climber. In a matter of minutes, you are pouring sweat and your heart rate is elevated.

I bought a TC20 TreadClimber 4 and 1/2 years ago and the motor went out. Went ahead and bought a new TreadClimber because I liked the first one so much and felt it a necessary part of nearly daily exercise. New one works great and a little easier to put together than the old one. A little heavy to move around. After getting the new TreadClimber, I called to see if the old one could be fixed and I was sent a new motor for free! The motor warranty is for 5 years. I am a little intimidated by replacing the motor in the old machine. Be sure to lubricate the treads every 3 months or so, as motor failure can be caused by not lubricating them.

I have been using the TreadClimber TC20 since the end of September and am extremely pleased with this machine! I applaud those who were involved in designing it…it is everything that it is advertised to be. I actually look forward to working out now. I have noticed a difference in my energy level and just feel better all around! Thank you so much for such a superb product!
