A Basic Walking Treadmill for the Office
There aren’t many companies that have ventured into the growing market for treadmill desks. LifeSpan has one of the largest selections of treadmill desks with their TR1200 and TR5000 lines. We especially like that they give you options within each of these models to select whether you want just the walking surface, the attached desk, or an electrically adjustable desk surface. This flexibility lets you find the exact type of machine that will suit your needs.
Multiple resources have supported the notion that it is unhealthy to sit at a desk for hours at a time. A treadmill desk is the perfect solution to let you slowly walk along while you type reports, take calls, and ponder the challenges of your daily job.
One of the main difference that you’ll find between treadmill desk models is in the power of the actual treadmill. Models like the NordicTrack Treadmill Desk simply attach a work surface to an already powerful running machine. The advantage here is that you can actually get an awesome workout on this treadmill. The NordicTrack models, including the NordicTrack Treadmill Desk Platinum, also allow you to fold up the treadmill surface and sit at your desk in a traditional chair when necessary. In contrast, a machine like the LifeSpan TR800 DT3 or TR800 DT5 is better suited JUST for walking while you work.
18” x 52” Running Space — This width is a bit narrow but it will work for just walking.
2.0 HP Continuous Duty Motor — This is one of the largest differences between this machine and the NordicTrack Treadmill Desks. The motor on those machines is 2.6 CHP and 3.0 CHP.
0.4 – 4.0 MPH speed settings – We find this speed range adequate for most walking while you work. However, if you wanted to go faster for a light jog over you lunch break, this machine will not work well for you.
Shock Absorption – This comes with a standard 6 compression shocks which should be fine for extended periods of walking.
User Weight – This machine is best used with individuals who weigh less than 300 lbs.
Warranty — Lifetime Frame, 3 years Motor, 1 years Parts, and 1 years Labor. This is a much lower warranty than many other LifeSpan products. They usually offer lifetime warranties on their motor. Interesting…
Just to avoid confusion, this is the same machine with and without the desk attachment. The DT5 has a desktop and the DT3 does not. LifeSpan sometimes offers DT7 versions of their treadmill desks with electronic desk height adjustment. They do not offer this for the TR800 series.
If you are just looking for a walking machine, then we really can’t find fault with these options. The TR800 DT3 is an especially inexpensive option if you already own a high table that would serve as a standing desk.
We should mention that we really like the features on the NordicTrack Treadmill Desk and Treadmill Desk Platinum. Their ability to serve as both a walking and sitting desk is definitely worth checking out.
