ProForm 980 AudioTrainer Treadmill Review

The ProForm 980 AudioTrainer Trainer treadmill has a decent array of features, which is typical of ProForm. This treadmill is designed for walking and jogging.

It is comparable to the NordicTrack T9, which is a big seller and both NordicTrack and ProForm are built by Icon Fitness. Although the 980 AudioTrainer is relatively new, the NordicTrack T9 has been out for around 6 months and has a solid track record.

iFIT® Workout Card Technology - The ifit technology is one of the more innovative ideas to come out of the fitness equipment industry. For an extra fee, you can purchase a serious of exercise programs created by professional fitness trainers. It follows an eight-week series. Each workout controls the speed and the incline of the machine, and also include audio. A personal trainer encourages you while providing tips on how to maximize your workout. When you purchase the 980 AudioTrainer you get on free iFIT card - a $30 value.

16 Workout Programs - In addition to the iFIT technology you get a generous selection of 16 installed workout programs.  They are designed to specifically focus on fitness goals like  aerobic, weight loss or performance.

Sound System - ProForm has sound systems in most of the fitness equipment.  The sound isn't exceptional, but it is convenient to plug in your iPod or MP3 right into the treadmill and have the sound directed towards.

Built-in Fan - An inexpensive add-on, but a popular feature.  Having the fan built into the console and direct towards you make it more effective than an external fan.

2.25 Continuous Duty HP Motor - At 2.25 HP, you have a motor that can handle walking and jogging with ease. This motor runs relatively quiet.

20" x 55" Treadbelt - A comfortable length for the average user.  If you are tall and/or plan to jog you may want to consider treadmill with a 60" belt. 

Adjustable Cushioning - The difference from one level to another is not that drastic, but the adjustment does help to find a degree of shock absorption that is better suited to your taste.

Review - ProForm 980 AudioTrainer Treadmill

ProForm and NordicTrack, both Icon Fitness companies, always have strong contenders at the $999 price range.  The ProForm 980 AudioTrainer is no exception.  This is a decent treadmill for walkers and joggers.  The features excel at getting you motivated at achieving your fitness goals.  NordicTrack's comparable model is the Nordictrack T9 ci.

Although I like the features on the 980, I also suggest you check out the Smooth 5.65 treadmill. It has a solid service record and comes with a 3-year parts warranty.
