proform 780 crosswalk treadmill reviewWhen selling for under $900 the ProForm 780 CrossWalk treadmill is a OK deal.  However, I have two issues with this particular model.  First, it comes with a 90-day parts and labor warranty (25 years on the motor).  That is the kind of coverage you would expect from throw-away model. Second, it has those handle bars that are suppose to simulate the upper body workout of an elliptical trainer.

Unlike an elliptical, a treadmill is not conducive to doing an upper body workout with  handlebars.  You are better off with a pair of dumbbells. The reason why handlebars work on an elliptical trainer is that they move in conjunction with the elliptical stride.  In addition, they tend to be better positioned in relationship to your body. So let's discount the handlebar feature and take a look at the other items on this machine.

Note: As of 11/18/09 the ProForm 780 CrossWalk treadmill was selling for $1,299 with shipping. Worth about $500 less. Go to ProFormTreadmills.com for the latest price.

ProForm 780 CrossWalk Features...

3.0 HP Motor - One of the better features on this treadmill is the motor size.  It should be adequate to handle both walkers and joggers, although the rest of the treadmill is better suited for walkers.  They call the motor "Commercial", that is pushing it.  You would never find this motor in a commercial treadmill.

20" x 55" Treadbelt - That is a typical length for a treadmill this price.  Good for average height walker.  If you are above average you may want to consider a treadmill with a longer belt.

12 Workout Programs - You get a nice selection of exercise programs that control the speed and incline of the treadmill.  It also comes with three programs that incorporate the upper body workout.

Other Features - It comes with a fan, which is a plus. Heart rate monitor is fairly standard on the majority of treadmills.  The treadmill folds, which is also typical for a treadmill in this price range.  They rate the user limit of the 780 CrossWalk at 300 lbs.  That is excessive, and I would put it at around 230 lbs.

Our Review - ProForm 780 CrossWalk

Considering the warranty and the features, I am not all that impressed with the ProForm 780 CrossWalk, particularly when it is selling for $850 or more.  The main reason is there generally are better deals on the ProForm site.  There are also usually better deals on the NordicTrack treadmill site.  Both treadmills are built by the same company.

Shop the other models and compare the features and the warranties.  I suspect your will find a better value.
