I
checked out the Horizon T1200 treadmill at a Dick's Sporting when
I was in Chicago. Typical of Dicks, there were no sales person to
ask questions. This particular model is going after the individual
that is looking for a moderate priced machine that can handle walkers
and joggers.
Here is a review of the features of the Horizon T1200...
2.75 continuous duty HP motor - This motor is sufficient
for walkers and joggers. It does not strain at high speeds. It is
covered with a lifetime warranty. For serious runners you will want
to consider a higher horsepower motor.
20" x 55" treadbelt - The T1200 has an adequate
length belt for average height individuals. If you are taller than
6'2" or a runner who is into sprints, you will want to consider
a longer treadbelt. Also, realize this is the length of the belt,
not the running surface. Often the belt is covered with an inch
or two of shroud.
Orthopedic belt - They claim the belt is orthopedic grade.
My experience with these belts is that they make little difference
in the shock absorption. The engineering of the deck will have more
of an affect on the impact. The deck did appear to have decent absorption.
Console
and display - I like the design and look of the console. You
get six LED readouts, which monitor several feedbacks simultaneously
like speed, time, calories burned, etc. The Horizon T1200 also has
quick keys for adjusting the speed and incline, which avoids having
to scroll. There are 13 programs offerings a good selection of challenges.
The one feature I did like is the eTRAK, which monitors and evaluates
a variety of workout statistics over time. If gives you a long-term
view of your progress.
Treadmill weight - The Horizon T1200 weighs 243 lbs, and
overall felt sturdy.
Speakers and iPod input - For 2008, treadmills with speakers
and music input seem to be popular. Music is an excellent motivator,
and having the speakers built-in is an appealing feature.
Warranty - The warranty is average. Most treadmills at this
price range are offering lifetime motors. The parts warranty is
3-years, and you get 1-year labor coverage.
Our Review - Horizon T1200 Treadmill
I'm not sure this is one of the better values at $1,300. For example,
when I was at Dick's the T1200 sat next to the Sole
F80. Although the F80 cost $200 more, the machine seemed sturdier
and more stable. The F80 comes with a 5-year parts and 2-year labor
warranty, and has an excellent service record. You get larger rollers,
a 3.0 hp motor and wireless heart rate control. Another contender
at this price range is the Bowflex Series
7 - also has a good service record.
Note: The user weight capacity for the T1200 is set at 375
lbs. I feel that is way over the mark by at least 100 lbs.
Customer Reviews
I checked the customer reviews at the Dick's Sporting web site,
and they were not very encouraging. Out of eight users, it rated
a weak 2.5 stars out of five. Although there were several satisfied
customers, a number complained about the quality control.
