Horizon Fitness T103 Treadmill ReviewThe Horizon T103 treadmill is a good-looking machine!  The blue backlit LCD display windows add a splash of color that is soothing and pleasing to the eye.  But what kind of quality can you expect out of the T103 treadmill?

Compared to the Horizon T101 and T102 models, the T103 is, perhaps, a little sturdier and a little more durable.  Of course, it should be at least a little higher quality than the other two treadmills!  After all, it costs more!

Note: As of 7/29/10 the Horizon Fitness T103 treadmill was selling for $999 with shipping. Go to HorizonFitness.com for the latest deal.

At this price also check out the Smooth 5.65 with a 3-years parts and 2-year labor warranty.

Features of the Horizon T103 Treadmill

Compared to the T101 and the T102 Horizon treadmills, the T103 has a more powerful motor, a higher maximum user weight capacity, more built-in workout programs, and a longer warranty on parts.

Below is a list of features that are found on the Horizon T103 treadmill:

  • 2.75 HP Continuous-Duty Motor – Although this motor is more powerful than the T101 and T102 treadmills, it still isn’t quite powerful enough to handle runners.  Keep this treadmill down to a walking or a jogging pace.
  • Horizon Fitness T103 Console 14 Built-In Workout Programs – With two more programs than come on the T102 model, the T103 offers a wide variety of workouts from which to choose.  Alternate among your favorite workouts to keep you motivated and on track towards reaching your desired fitness goals.
  • 20” x 55” Active Surface – This is the same size active surface as those that come on the Horizon T101 and T102 treadmills.  This isn’t a bad size, yet it may not be quite long enough for tall users or users with extra-long strides.
  • 350 Lb. Maximum User Weight Capacity – This is 30 pounds more than the maximum user weight capacity of the T102 model.  I feel manufacturers tend to overstate their user capacity. I would put the weight limit at around 260 lbs.
  • Easy To Fold – This is an especially nice feature for people who have limited space in their homes.  With little effort, you can fold this unit to store it after use.
  • Heart Rate Monitor – Hand grip heart rate monitors allow you to keep track of your heart rate so that you can increase or decrease the intensity of your workouts as needed.  This type of monitor is not as efficient as the wireless variety; however, it is better than no heart rate monitor at all.
  • Cooling Fan – The fan provides a little relief; but when you’re really working up a good sweat, the relief may be so minimal that it’s hardly noticeable.
  • Up to 12 MPH Speed Capacity And Up To 12% Incline Capacity – To crank up the intensity on your workouts, you may exercise at a faster pace or on a steeper incline.  Reduce the speed and/or incline to work at a lower intensity level.
  • Warranties – As with the Horizon T101 and T102 treadmills, the T103 also has lifetime warranties on its frame and motor.  The parts warranty on the T103 is 2 years…a year longer than the parts warranties on the other two models.  All of these models have one-year labor warranties.

The Horizon T103 Treadmill: Our Review

Among this particular series of Horizon treadmills, the T103 is certainly the better model.  Its higher quality is reflected in its higher price.  The T103 is more suitable than the T101 and the T102 for jogging.  None of these treadmills is really adequate to support running.

Walkers of average size could probably get by with any of these three Horizon models.  So, if you’re a walker who wants to save a few hundred dollars, you might choose one of the less costly of these treadmills.  Though, before you make your choice, just remind yourself that the Horizon T103 might cost a bit more, but it IS a better quality machine.  It’s a little sturdier, a little more durable, and is protected by a better warranty.
