horizon pst8 treadmill review
Horizon PST6 Treadmill
$1,600-$1,800

When Consumer Reports gives a "Best Buy" rating you have to take notice. The Horizon PST8 treadmill received that distinction in their 2006 review. It is now replaced by the PST6 treadmill.

Horizon probably has more treadmill models in their inventory then any other manufacturer. In general, we are not crazy about their low-end models. But their $1,000+ treadmills are built with quality components designed for regular usage.

Having tested the treadmill at Dick's Sporting we found the absorption system very forgiving. You baby boomers will appreciate the extra cushioned belt. The 2.5 hp motor provided ample power and did not appear to strain even while sprinting. By the way, the speed goes up to 12 mph, so you'll struggle to reach the top speed. The machine was relatively quiet.

Horizon PST6 treadmill consoleThe console has an efficient design, with the layout very well organized. We particularly liked the blue display panels. As the advertise, the folding process is easy and requires very little physical exertion.

As with any of the Horizon treadmills are complaint is with the warranty. At $1,300 the 1 year parts warranty is out of line with the industry. Similar priced Sole, Pacemaster and Smooth treadmills have 3-5 year parts warranties. In fact, Sole has a 2 year service warranty.

Consumer Report Review

As mentioned, the Horizon PST8 was rated a "Best Buy" in the folding category. Overall they rated it "Excellent" for ergonomics and exercise range. CS ratings are unique for the reason that they put the machines through extensive testing.

Our Review

The problem with rating a treadmills in this price range is the fact there are too many quality brands to choose from. They include Smooth, Sole, Keys, Pacemaster, New Balance, Bodyguard and Spirit. If you have a Dick's in your neighborhood go for a test drive. If you are planning to buy online check out the Sole F80 and the Smooth 6.45. Compare options and warranty. I think you will find some good alternatives.
