NordicTrack Treadmill Reviews

October 12th, 2007

I recently had the opportunity to go out to Logan, Utah and visit the Icon Fitness plant, where they build NordicTrack treadmills.  Prior to my trip I had a rather negative view of Icon because of their budget models built under the Weslo, Image and ProForm name.  I was surprised to find out that under the NordicTrack name they were building some impressive machines. In addition, NordicTrack is offering some of the most innovative treadmills in the industry, all at value prices.  For example, they currently have 4 treadmills that include flat screen televisions.  Treadmills with TVs make perfect sense, since running in place can be as boring as watching paint dry.

They also offer several models with premium sound systems, which include subwoofers.  That cracks me up, a treadmill with a subwoofer.  These models allow you to plug in your MP3 player and other popular audio devices.

Other features I like is the iFit technology.  You purchase a series of workout cards that have audio coaching and control the speed and incline of your treadmill.   The cards come in different series that have different themes like weight loss, performance and conditioning.  You start out with the beginner package and work your way up.

Another innovation is two unique decks available only on NordicTrack treadmills.  First, they have the The Durasoft III Adjustable Cushioning deck.  You can actually adjust the level of shock absorption. In addition, they have the Reflex deck.  It is made out of poplar, the same wood they use for snowboards.  This deck bounces with your impact.  It is one of the most forgiving decks in the industry.

The only complaints about NordicTrack is their limited warranty and their somewhat unresponsive customer service.  Their warranty has lifetime coverage on the motor and 1-year on the parts and labor.  The cost to extend the coverage is very reasonable.

Regarding the customer service, I was told they are investing considerable money and resources to upgrade the quality.  This should be in place by the next Xmas season.

Overall I would say NordicTrack offers good value for treadmills and elliptical trainers.   To learn more, go to Nordictrack Treadmill Reviews.
